As these hoses age, the rubber degrades from repeated heat cycling between cold ambient air and hot compressed intake charge, causing the material to harden, crack, and lose elasticity at the clamp interface. Under boost pressure — particularly on modified cars running elevated boost levels — the weakened hose splits at the join or pops off the pipe entirely, causing an immediate total loss of boost pressure.
