02Power Steering Pump Internal Seal Failure & Fluid Leak

The KDH200 Series power steering pump uses a vane-type hydraulic pump with internal shaft seals and O-ring face seals subject to long-term heat cycling and fluid degradation. At high odometer readings the shaft lip seal hardens and loses contact with the shaft surface, allowing power steering fluid to weep past the seal and pool at the front of the pump. Simultaneously the high-pressure outlet O-ring can deform under sustained pressure, causing a weeping leak at the pressure hose banjo fitting. Both leak points contaminate the accessory drive belt and can accelerate belt degradation. If fluid level drops sufficiently, the pump groans under full steering lock and steering assist fades progressively. Seals are available separately for overhaul, but pump replacement is more common in fleet servicing.
