01AHR20 Hybrid Inverter and DC-DC Converter Failure
CriticalCommonElectrical $4,900–$9,800 to fix
The power control unit (PCU) housing the inverter, boost converter, and DC-DC converter on the AHR20 develops internal IGBT module failures from thermal fatigue and coolant ingress at the water-cooled heat exchanger. Inverter failure disables MG2 (the primary drive motor), leaving the vehicle combustion-engine only with degraded performance. DC-DC converter failure causes 12V auxiliary battery drain and complete electrical shutdown. Coolant leaks from the PCU cooling circuit are a precursor to PCU failure. Rebuilt PCU units are available but are the single most expensive repair on the platform.
Symptoms to notice
Difficult starting or battery drain
Fault codes or irregular readings when scanned
What to check
Scan ECU for stored and pending fault codes. Test all electronic functions. Check battery voltage and alternator output. The power control unit (PCU) housing the inverter, boost converter, and DC-DC co...
AC compressor clutch bearing wears causing squealing when AC is engaged. Common on high-km Estima.
Symptoms to notice
Squealing or grinding from engine front when AC is switched on
Noise stops when AC is switched off
What to check
Test AC during test drive. Listen for squealing from engine front when AC is engaged.
Where to look: AC compressor on front of engine
Ask the seller
“Has the air conditioning compressor clutch bearing been inspected or repaired?”
