Yes. The Anniversary Weekend floods (27 January to 2 February 2023) produced 7,541 motor insurance claims on the Insurance Council's early count, and Auckland flooded again on 9 May. Insured write-offs are recorded on the NZTA register, but the Insurance Council warns an uninsured flooded car may not be. Check the written-off record, then look for damp underlay, silt in the seat rails, corroded seat bolts and misting inside the lights.
